Child Protection Training 2024
If you are looking to commence a career as an Early Years or School Aged Childcare Professional, there are many different course options available for you across highly respected further education colleges and universities across Cork city and county. Here is a list of the colleges that are currently offering courses in the Childcare sector.
University College Cork (UCC)
University College Cork (UCC) is an award-winning institution with a history of independent thinking stretching back over 170 years. UCC is proud to be ranked in the top 2% of universities in the world. It opened its gates to just 115 students in 1849. UCC now has a student population of over 21,000.

Cork Institute of Technology (CIT)
Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) is one of the most highly rated higher education colleges in Ireland, both in terms of facilities and in the great student-staff relations. CIT offers the full range of higher education qualifications, including Bachelor degrees, Honours Bachelor degrees, and post-graduate Masters and PhD degrees. Progressive College

Early Years Recognised Qualifications
This DECDIY approved list contains all qualifications which have been approved by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.
It also sets out the appropriate level of DCEDIY approval, for example:
- Meets regulatory requirements.
- Eligible for Room Leader – standard capitation.
- Eligible for Room Leader – higher capitation.
If your qualification is on the list you do not need to apply to DCEDIY for qualifications recognition.
If your early childhood care and education qualification does not appear on the list you may apply to have it assessed for approval (see here)
